Registrations - Jamaica
Jamaica reviewed their acceptance policy
On January 5 2004 it was decided to
review the policy regarding age of vessels
which will be accepted into the
registry. Jamaica will register vessels over
20 year provided that they are in
good condition determined by a pre
registration survey.
Vessels which are trading within the Paris PSC
MOU area should have a clean history as the
Jamaica registry is aiming to keep their
credibility with the Paris MOU as a quality flag
state. -
January 9 , 2004.
The
Jamaica Ship Registry (JSR), which was
originally established in 1921 under the UK
Merchant Shipping Act of 1834, has been
modernized by the Shipping Act 1998 and expanded
to accommodate international ship registration.
The
"new" JSR offers the support of a
quality Registry to a demanding clientele
operating in an internationally competitive and
dynamic industry. It therefore guarantees
the most modern standards of safety with
competitive fiscal and other incentives to meet
the needs of the ship owner for lower operating
costs and improved profit margins.
The
JSR is administered by the Maritime Authority of
Jamaica (MAJ) and was established with the
principal object to pursue the development of
shipping and to regulate matters relating to
merchant shipping and seafarers. As the maritime
